Bicentennial book

Local artist Dianne Mize presents an original oil painting, “Voice of the Soquee,” to Bobby Watson, chairman of the 2018 bicentennial book project.
Watson said the painting will be used on the cover of a new book about Habersham County history to be published in late summer titled, “Habersham 200 – New Thoughts of Old Things.”
The book is divided into three sections: Habersham County – The First 100 Years (an overview of the early history of Habersham County, including early Native Americans in Northeast Georgia; Communities (the history of our seven municipalities, plus the African-American, Latino and Asian Communities; and Things to Know about Habersham – People, Places and Things (the history of worship; education; economic development; notable Habersham Countians; historic places; natural beauty; and resources for further study.
The book committee invites anyone interested in the book to attend a special preview of the book as a part of the Mountain Laurel Festival, Saturday, May 19th from 1-2 p.m. in the old courthouse.
An overview of the book’s content will be presented through a PowerPoint presentation and comments and input will be welcomed.
The completed final manuscript goes to the publisher on May 25, with a publication date set for August 30, 2018.
